VIDEO RESOLUTION

CRT displays are analog devices and their resolution is defined by the number of scan lines and dots (pixels) they can display. Resolution formats in CRT technology include Standard Definition (SD), Enhanced Definition (ED) and High Definition (HD), where all three formats support different levels of video resolution and image quality:

Standard Definition (SD):

Standard Definition (SD) is the most common video resolution format supported by CRT displays.

240p: This resolution displays 240 lines progressively and is often used by older video game consoles and arcade machines such as the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), Sega Genesis, and other gaming systems from that era.

480i: This is the standard resolution for NTSC video signals, commonly used in North America and Japan. It consists of 480 interlaced lines, with each field displaying alternate lines at a time.

576i: This is the standard resolution for PAL video signals, commonly used in Europe and other parts of the world. It consists of 576 interlaced lines, with each field displaying alternate lines at a time.

Enhanced Definition (ED):

Enhanced definition (ED) resolutions offer a slight improvement over SD.

360p: 360p is a progressive scan resolution, meaning that all lines are displayed in sequence, typically providing a smoother and more detailed image compared to interlaced video.

480p: This is an enhanced version of the standard NTSC resolution, also known as progressive scan. It displays 480 lines progressively, typically resulting in a smoother and more detailed image compared to interlaced video.

High Definition (HD):

High Definition (HD) is supported by Multiformat and Multisync CRT displays.

720p: This is an HD resolution that displays 720 lines progressively. It offers a sharper and more detailed image compared to SD resolutions.

1080i: This is an HD resolution that displays 1080 lines in interlaced format. It provides high-quality visuals but with a slight reduction in motion clarity compared to progressive scan.

1080p: This is an HD resolution that displays 1080 lines progressively. It offers the highest level of detail and clarity in CRT displays.
